A Bright Future

Two priorities underpin the School's upcoming decades of clinical excellence.

The Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (CCRH) will be a new world‑class facility designed to integrate research and clinical care for earlier cancer detection and personalised treatment. The Clinical School will have three embedded research institutes in the new hospital, one of which has been funded by alumnus Andrew Barnes in honour of his partner Charlotte Lockhart who has incurable breast cancer.

The Cambridge Children’s Hospital (CCH) will be the world’s first hospital to fully integrate physical and mental health care for children and adolescents. It will also have an embedded research institute and is expected to become a new model of care for paediatrics. Alumnus Majid Jafar and his wife Lynn have provided generous support for the Cambridge Children’s Hospital.

Both hospitals still require significant philanthropic support with formal approval from HM Treasury due in 2027. The hospitals are expected to open in 2031.

Ensuring that patients remain at the centre of the School’s focus will be integral to the next 5 decades and beyond. Equally, the School is committed to equipping the next generation with the clinical skills to define and tackle the problems of the future. Our continuing impact depends on our community of leading clinicians who are also excellent teachers and researchers.
