Pembroke
Our three years at Pembroke have passed in an effervescent blur. Our first evening as Valencians set us off on a whistle-stop tour of Cambridge; the traditional Scavenger Hunt saw us “dip in the Cam” and “plank outside the Corpus Clock.” Later, we would show off our self-proclaimed defining character trait at the “Mister and Little Miss Bop,” our first acquaintance with a soon-to-be-refurbished JP. It wasn’t long before we embraced the community spirit that Pembroke is famous for and College began to feel like home.
We were lucky enough to matriculate during a transformational time for Pembroke, with the new Dolby Court opening for students and a new Master in Polly Blakesley. These changes brought us en suites, Leti’s Café ’84, and dogs in the Master’s Lodge. We celebrated 40 Years of Women at Pembroke with some inspiring alumni, revelled in two May Balls, and danced at the annual Ceilidh. Our cohort threw
itself wholeheartedly into collegiate life: the Pembroke Players went from strength to strength; our music scene was burnished by the formation of a House Band and the release of a new choir album; and successes were celebrated in Football, Rugby, Netball, Tennis, Rowing, and Badminton.
While learning which size cutlery means what – and how to wear a gown without feeling silly – becomes part of your life, it is the brilliant and kind people you see around College every day that makes Pembroke so special. Amidst the changing seasons, the constancy and beauty of Pembroke and its people grounded us and made our three years here wonderful. Everybody is biased, but one thing is for sure: We’re Loving Pembroke Instead.
