Magdalene
It doesn’t seem like long ago that we were dragging our luggage into Magdalene Plodge, desperately trying not to get in each other’s way while we waited to find out where our home for the next year would be. Yet here we stand three or four years later, each one of us with our own stories – the mistakes we’ve made, the lessons we’ve learnt and the things we are most proud of. Together we have lived, laughed and made memories that will last us a lifetime. We have taken part in many of Magdalene’s great traditions and made new ones along the way, from playing with Hattie in the Fellows’ Garden at Tea-at-3, to enjoying the Magdalene Jazz Disciples’ performances in the bar, to enthusiastically queuing for Sarah’s strawberries and cream in Easter Term and singing along at the top of our voices and dancing the can-can to ‘New York’ at BOP. We have enjoyed many formals celebrating the diversity of our community including the LGBTQ+ History Month Formal with its vivid colours (and brave variety of brightly-coloured food!), the brilliant speech by
the JCR Women’s Officer at International Women’s Day Formal and the wonderful diversity of cultural outfits at Black History Month and Diwali Formals.
All these experiences have taught us how valuable our community at Magdalene is. We are grateful to our friendly Porters, housekeeping and buttery staff who have helped make this place our home for the past few years. How fortunate are we to say that Magdalene has been part of our journey.
As our time at Cambridge comes to an end and we move on to the next stage of our lives, let us continue to Garde Ta Foy in ourselves, each other and the brightness of our futures.
