Lucy Cavendish
As our cohort settled into Lucy Cavendish in 2023, College felt like a place where we belonged. Perhaps it was the shared experiences many of us already had coming from state school and international backgrounds, or because our arrival marked the completion of the College’s historic shift to an all-gender undergraduate body. Either way, this feeling of belonging has shaped our College experience. From navigating Ticketmaster-esque balloting to celebrating Lucy’s 60th birthday together, through the highs and lows, the Lucy community continues to prosper.
This period has been full of achievements for Lucians across the board. Sports at Lucy are thriving with a growing number of teams and sports represented by the College, including the newly introduced Pickleball Club and Rugby Sevens Squad. Our flagship open-mic event Live@Lucy is now joined by Live@CastleStreet, fostering an even bigger platform to showcase diverse talent from
across the student community. We’re also extremely proud of our year’s new societies such as the Historical Congress, the Cavendish Cauldron and the Lucy Law Society, which we hope will carry on running their incredible events after our departure.
From post-formal nights in the Nautilus to jam sessions in the Music Pavilion and free-food events in the Café, each space in the College houses a memorable experience. As we mourn the loss of our beloved Gables and Whinside buildings, and welcome the new Hinsley Lane site, it is clear that the College landscape is constantly changing, with or without us. One thing that will never change, though, are the memories that we’ve carved in these spaces during our time here. As our journeys and successes continue and we take our next steps forwards, let us cherish these memories forever.

Reflecting on our time at Lucy as finalists feels surreal. As the 3rd JCR-Presidents, things moved fast. We’ve enjoyed seeing Lucy develop, especially with Girish recently taking the reins. Our time as Presidents was not without challenge; our term began with an emergency accommodation meeting, and ended with the battle won, but the war ongoing. Yet, the highs outweighed the lows. From gym renovations to Freshers schedules, summarising such a monumental year is a task we didn’t expect to be so hard, but one which has made us so grateful for Lucy, especially the Lucians.

Founding the Historical Congress has been one of the defining experiences of my time in college. Building a society from scratch was highly rewarding, particularly when initiatives such as exclusive tours of Cambridge archives and day trips to Ely and London made history accessible to all college members regardless of degree.

The support from the Lucy community was unreal on fight night. Even President Girish came to cheer. Preparing for the fight was a great journey - training in the state of the art facilities in Lucy gym to sparring on the Hinsley patio. Up the Cav <3

Soup Sunday’s been going since Michaelmas 2024. There’s always a mix of people turning up and everyone gets stuck in. Whether that’s chopping, making cheesy-bread, or turning up with a bowl, there's space for everyone. It’s a lovely part of the week, and I hope it keeps going.

After meeting AK at the Lucy offer-holder-day, we were buzzing to make music together. Lost Projects was born after some chance collaborations at a HipHopSoc open-mic night. A lot of our memories have been made at Lucy’s music pavilion. I’m excited to see where our musical passions take us next.
