Gonville & Caius
Life at Caius has been an immense privilege: a combination of modernity and tradition, of working on essays in the palatial surrounds of Caius library, cheap formals, and games of darts and table football in the Underbar over a Happy Hour pint. But what stands out is its community, and that couldn’t be reflected better in our year group. Delving back into the archives, the ‘Spill the Baiuns’ posts and my camera roll, so many memories stick out. Arriving as Freshers, we were welcomed to Caius through a week of pub quizzes and bringing down the average age in Vinyl to maybe 60. First year was filled with happy times of pres in the SHB corridors and Harvey Court balconies, the famous International Women’s Day BOP, some extravagant College proposals and getting up at 9am for 9am lectures on Sidge. We finished the year by surviving the fantastic Caius May Ball.
In second year, we moved out to such prestigious accommodations as Morti, Chesty and Green Street. We ran College societies from Football to the short-lived Culinary society, and the even shorter-lived Croquet society. Being on the GCSU Committee was a lot of fun, although ‘flag days’ is something none of us wants to hear again. In Easter Term, we relaxed on the sun-soaked Gonville Court and Tree(less) Court.
In our final year, we’ve been able to enjoy conversations about plans after Uni, what we’ll miss about Caius, and most importantly, debating who should be Caius Group Leader at the Third Year Hall awards. I know that the friendships we’ve made and the memories we’ve shared will be treasured long into the future, and I feel incredibly blessed to have shared this University experience with you all.
Once a Caian, always a Caian!
